Blue Air’s owner expands into agriculture

“In 2006, I began investing in an orchard in Adunatii Copaceni, [Ed. n. south of Bucharest] covering 80 hectares, and where we planted apple, pear, cherry and plum trees. This investments has cost €4 million to date,” Iordache declared for Business Standard. He added that some €1 million were invested in cold storage. Aside from fruit production, Iordache is interested in planting edible grape vineyards.

The businessman believes that agriculture is a profitable domain in Romania, which has determined him to increasingly focus on this segment.

However, Nelu Iordache will continue to invest in the low-cost airline, and attract projects for Romstrade, one of the road construction companies in Romania, which carried out numerous projects in Bucharest in recent years. He declared recently that Romstrade will build the runway for the George Enescu Airport in Bacau, which Blue Air leased for a period of 34 years, and in which he will invest over €45 million. At present, Iordache owns 80 percent of Blue Air shares, while the remaining 20 percent are owned equally by Gheorghe Racare and Romstrade.

The businessman added that he has abandoned his intention to invest in the wind energy market. At present, there is demand in Romania for over 17,000 MW of wind energy, as the current energy system is unable to provide more than 2,000 MW.
