We invested €7.5 million, of which €2.8 mln in equipment in the Baneasa Diagnostic and Treatment Center. This will be a difficult year for CMU, with many investments – CMU Kids, acquisitions around the country, the opening of greenfield clinics in the country – and we hope to pick up maximum speed next year. As concerns the Diagnostic Center, our goal is to reach maximum capacity within one year, and to make a profit in two years,” said Wargha Enayati, founder and General Manager of the company. The CMU official is estimating turnover worth over €11 mln in 2008, following net sales in 2007 of some €8 mln.

“The spectacular growth can be attributed to two things. First, the entry of the 3i investment fund as a CMU shareholder, with a 49 percent minority share package. And secondly, we operate on a subscription basis, reaching 60,000, with the corporate segment a very useful engine for us,” added Enayati.

This year CMU has begun to expand country-wide, with its management announcing the acquisition of a clinic in Cluj-Napoca at the beginning of the year. A new clinic was opened subsequently in the city of Ploiesti, in proximity to Bucharest, followed by the inauguration of CMU Kids, and another clinic is due to established in western Bucharest.

Although CMU originally focused especially on corporate subscriber-based medical services, it now targets the development of retail services, with payment per service for individuals.
