Thus, in the case of foodstuffs, Romanians are opting for less expensive, basic products, which translates into savings in the family’s budget. However, things are different as concerns household appliances, where the purchase of an inexpensive product means higher maintenance costs.
Consumers are now more careful about the acquisition of durable goods. They are becoming more informed and watchful of indicators, such as energy consumption, life span, and period of guarantee. Thus, they have concluded that a product which is more expensive by a few million lei will generate future savings due to its low energy consumption and long life span.
“We have noticed increased demand for higher priced and better quality products, now seen more as an investment. If you buy an inexpensive product, you will probably have to replace it much sooner and will waste more time and money with the service than if you acquired a superior quality and priced product. People are now looking for class A+ products, as energy consumption and protecting the environment are gaining importance when opting for such appliances,” Mioara Bolozan, Marketing Manager of Whirlpool Romania, told Business Standard.
