“The catering market is obviously dropping. If, by 2008, the market had a constant upward trend, now, the decline ranges between 20-50 percent. Companies cut, some of them even completely, internal events (training, teambuildings), and consequently, demand for catering services also dropped,” the General Manager of Privileg Catering, Anca Mitu, told Business Standard.

“The first six months of 2009 have been the weakest half year in the history of our company, that stretches on over 17 years, and maybe the least challenging. I believe the second half of this year will the same as the first, moreover, I believe that things will not pick up even in 2010,” the General Manager of Gala Catering, Georgiana Diaconul, said.

Some players have the possibility of covering the losses registered on the catering segment by providing other services, as is the case of the Gastrotur company, which provides hotel, public alimentation, and touristic services.

“We posted a 30 percent drop on the catering segment, in the first half of this year. We are not very affected, because our business includes other branches as well, which evolve rather well,” the General Manager of Gastrotur, Teodor Morar, said.
