eMag, leader on the Romanian electronic commerce market, has announced it is considering expansion to other countries in the region.

“It is a plan we have been considering and we are likely to develop it sometime in the middle of next year. The targeted countries are or , but we must study the market and the opportunities there. For the time being it is just an idea,” Radu Apostolescu, Executive Manager of eMag told Business Standard. eMag posted total net sales of €16.5 million in Q1 2007, of which €2.5 million in Hewlett Packard (HP) products. “HP products make up a very significant ratio of the eMag portfolio, with an approximately 17 percent share of eMag’s net sales,” Apostolescu said.

In 2006, eMag registered some €35 million in net sales and for 2007 company officials estimate revenues to double, surpassing €70 million. The Romanian online sales market is evaluated by company officials at €125 million for the current year, while an increase of up to €300 million is expected in 2008. (Irina Crudu)

Some 60 percent of the online shop’s customers are individuals and small companies, while the remaining 40 percent are medium-sized and large companies. Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Ernst&Young, Paynet and ING are among eMag’s clients, according to a company report.    

The main share of sales is in hardware, followed by electronic equipment and notebooks accounting for 30-35 percent, LCDs, LCD TV products, monitors and projectors – 15 percent, photo and video cameras – 11 percent, components 10 percent, and printing solutions 8 percent. eMag’s best-selling products are notebooks, with an estimated 20 percent market share in 2007, LCD monitors, digital cameras, and mobile phones.
