State-owned companies Nuclearelectrica, Romgaz, and Electrica, will not be part of the two new national energy companies, according to the latest restructuring scenario drafted by the Ministry of Economy, headed by Adriean Videanu.
“The decision of excluding Electrica was made in order not to discriminate against large energy groups that have acquired local market electricity distribution and have no production, and that are held almost exclusively by the state,” sources on the energy market told Business Standard.
Videanu spoke Saturday about the restructuring in production, saying that Romania is the only European Union member country which has a rigid energy production structure. “We must restructure the energy production sector to make one, two, or four profitable national companies, which would invest in rendering Romania’s energy potential profitable,” said the Minister of Economy.
