“In Central and Eastern Europe, the sales increase in volume was negative on all markets. Russia, Romania, and Greece evolved in line with the average regional trend, while Poland had an above-average development and Austria a below-average one,” a Heineken group statement indicated.
Heineken’s total revenues soared 24 percent internationally in the first three months, to €3 billion, once the Scottish&Newcastle company was integrated in the group and prices increased, but these dropped organically by one percent, due to a decline in volume and the fluctuation of the exchange rate.
The local beer market is worth some €1.7 bln, and registered 20.2 mln hl in sales, up 4.1 percent year-on-year, according to data provided by the “Brewers of Romania” Association. Major players on this market include Heineken, Ursus Breweries, InBev, URBB, and European Drinks.
