“Human resource specialists complain that they are not involved in negotiations, but this happens because they do not attempt to be a part of these activities,” said Vlad Bog, Coca-Cola’s Capability & Development Manager for Eurasia. Bog is in charge of Coca-Cola’s corporate online academy, to develop the competence of employees in 43 countries in several geographic regions, including the Middle East and India.
Bog said that the HR departments of Romanian companies handle only administrative issues. “HR specialists should get involved in the company’s development plans. In crisis situations this is the only position that counts for the General Manager,” added Bog.
Marius Persinariu, General Manager of Xerox, agrees with Bog. Persinariu said that the HR department should fight for its role in the organization, and be part of the company’s strategic planning.
In Romania, a mere 11 percent of participants in the Romanian HR Profile 2007 study see the human resource department as a strategic one. Last year, in 72 percent of cases, strategic human resource decisions were made by the General Manager.
