The government does not have an anti-crisis strategy, was the conclusion of Business Standard’s three weeks ago, when the newspaper invited its readers to come up with their own suggestions on a first page left blank for this purpose. At the coalition level, the two parties (the Democratic-Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party) proposed dozens of anti-crisis measures, although none was implemented. Based on today’s analysis by Business Standard shows that the main reason of this situation is modest individual performance in each ministry.
What are the main problems? Political goals, economic execution and social perception. Most ministers have forgotten the objectives they set as part of the governing program. In the best cases, they took only minor steps in the right direction. Moreover, most did not act in accordance with the commitment assumed by Boc, who had said that he would cut salary expenses by 20 percent, and they were to receive extra money at the budget revision for personnel costs.
On the investment side, most ministries found themselves obliged to return allocated funds. The situation is similar in the case of European funds, where the amounts included in the budget were massively cut, after the Romanian authorities proved themselves incapable of absorbing these.
At perception level, ministers manage to score better, given the solidarity among parties. On the other hand, referring to the relation with social partners, employer associations are disappointed, and some of the trade unions are even protesting in the street.
