MOL plans to enter Romanian gas trading market

“Once the Arad-Szeged interconnection project is completed, I am certain that not only MOL, but also other regional players, will go on the two sides. Thus, not only Hungarian companies will enter Romania, but Romanian training companies will also move to Hungary,” Lakatos said. “I think this is an important step, because competition will increase in the region, which will bring more security, from consumers and governments’ point of view,” he added.

The Arad-Szeged (northwestern Romania) gas pipe, set to become operational in 2010, will only transport natural gas from Hungary to Romania and not the other way around. However, technical changes will be made in the future to allow gas transportation from Romania to Hungary.
