“The first model to be launched for production is the Nokia 1200, and now we are also producing other models of the same entry level category. The facilities at the factory allow for the assembly of several models, so these will vary in future, but I cannot say how many models, as this depends on the nature of orders,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by Anna Simai, Senior Communication Manager for Nokia South East Europe.

Nokia inaugurated its first assembly line in its Jucu factory on 11 February, beginning production with employees working in a single shift.

“About two weeks ago, the factory began working in two shifts. At present we have a total of some 500 employees,” said Anna Simai. According to several sources, the shifts are scheduled in such a way that they allow workers to be shuttled to and from the factory, and the assembly line has been synchronized to allow for a five minute cigarette break every hour. Workers receive one meal every day and meal tickets, and most are from the Jucu, Gherla, Dej, and Cluj-Napoca areas. By the end of the year 2009, it wants 3,500 employees.
