Oracle is considering not extending the contracts of its temporary staff

These employees make up 10-15 percent of the subsidiary’s personnel and are recruited through Adecco, the largest player in the human resource field.

Contacted by Business Standard, company officials declined to comment on the information.

“Not extending contracts signed for a specific period of time is a practice which will be largely applied on the local market, given current economic conditions. This is an easy way – devoid of legal impediments – to cut personnel, considering that the volume of orders on the market is dropping,” said the official of a local company, who wished to remain anonymous.

Specialists say that the global IT market will suffer a contraction due to declining projects and low investments in technology, a trend which will also affect the local market. The growth pace of the Romanian software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) services will fall to eight percent in 2009, from the 25 percent annual growth rate initially estimated by the Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) strategic consultancy and research company.
