“Dacia’s main market is, obviously, Romania, as it is the domestic market. However, sales on this market fell significantly last year,” said Jacques Daniel, Commercial Manager of the Renault group.
Vice President of Automobile Dacia, Constantin Stroe, said recently that the company could face image and profitability-related problems, if the market share in Romania falls below the 25 percent threshold, considering that this year’s sales ensure the local brand a 26 percent market share, down from 30 percent in 2008.
The total Romanian market amounted to some 330,000 units, compared to the 370,000 units in 2007. Importer officials estimate that this year’s sales will vary between 200,000-250,000 units. Total car sales declined 7.2 percent in Europe in December 2008, to 1.51 million units.
