Romania has the fifth largest trade deficit among European member states, posting some €17.3 billion in October 2007, according to the European statistics office, Eurostat. Romania is topped only by the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Greece. Initial estimates for November show a deficit of €16.8 bln in the 27 European member states, while the Euro region posted a surplus of €2.6 bln.
