Romania’s trade deficit widens 63% in the first seven months, to EUR11.5bn

The country’s trade deficit stood at 11.53 billion euros in the first seven months of the year, stimulated by the 35 percent advance seen in imports coming from EU member countries. The trade deficit went slightly down against the trade deficit seen in the first six months of the year, when a 65.2 percent advance against the same period in 2006 was registered.

Romania’s exports totaled 2.6 billion euros in July, up 18.3 year-on-year. Imports stood at 4.4 billion euros, up 27.5 percent against the same month last year. Romania’s exports went up 5.2 percent in July, if calculated in lei, while imports scored a 12.6 percent advance.

Exports to EU countries went up 19 percent year-on-year in July, to 1.9 billion euros. Imports coming from the EU space increased 29.2 percent, to 3.13 billion euros.
