The country’s trade deficit stood at 13.3 billion euros in the first eight months of the year. Imports grew 27.5 percent in the first eight months of the year while exports rose 11.8 percent, in the same period.
Exports stood at 18.9 billion euros in the first eight months of the year while imports totaled 32.3 billion euros. The value of the trade between Romania and the rest of the EU countries stood at 13.6 billion euros for deliveries, between January and August 2007. Acquisitions stood at 22.9 billion euros.
INS explained the increase of imported goods was largely influenced by the general trade system (Intrastat), which was introduced starting January 1, 2007. This system keeps track of the imported goods at the customs, before they are put on sale.
