The country’s current account deficit widened to 10.23 billion euros in the first eight months of the year. Yet, the current account deficit tempered against the one recorded in the first seven months of the year and which widened 100 percent.
The main factor that influenced the widening of the current account deficit was the trade balance deficit, which stood at 10.8 billion euros. It went up 69 percent against the January – July 2006 period.
The services balance recorded a 150 million euros surplus in the first eight months of the year, down by 37.5 percent against the same period last year. The revenues balance saw a 3 billion euros deficit in the first eight months of the year, 46.8 percent wide against last year.
