“Domestic IT&C, electronics and household appliance market is currently involved in a phase of intensive development, and is expected to register an accelerated rhythm of growth, 10-15 percent annually, thus reaching the level of other markets in Central and Eastern Europe, like Hungary and the Czech Republic, in the next 3-5 years,” said Jiri Rizek, CEO at Flamingo
International. There will be increased consumer trust this year in IT&C, electronics and household appliance retail, and the Romanian market will stabilize, which could lead to an rise in this sector, according to Rizek.
“The market increased by 15 percent in the first five months of this year compared to the similar period in 2006. Last year, the market value was €850 million,” explained Gyorgy Baba, General Manager of household appliance retailer Teknosa Primex.
Flamingo officials expect a 10-15 percent increase in IT&C retail, as well as of black products, owing to technological developments.
“The sale of white products increased by 5 percent in the first few months, while plasma and LCD screen sales grew by 100 percent. The market value increased by 3-4 percent. For the whole of 2007 I believe the market’s volume will grow by 10 percent,” said Altex President Dan Ostahie.
Czech and Hungarian markets are much more stable, say Flamingo officials, and their annual growth rate is some 3-5 percent. “We estimate that the Romanian market will stabilize by 2011-2012, and it will expereince continuous growth until that time,” Baba.
Central and Eastern European markets now have a 40-50 percent advance, amounting to some €1.4 billion, compared to less than €1 billion, the value of the Romanian market. Even if the volume of sales is higher in Romania, due to a larger population, there are significant differences in the value of sales, the main cause being the Romanian customer sensitivity to price. Czech and Hungarian consumers are less interested in price and more in post-acquisition services, such as installation and warranty. IT&C has a 40 percent contribution to the Czech and Hungarian IT&C, electronics and household appliance market, while black and white products bring only 30 percent each.
