Romanian teachers to call general strike on indefinite period starting May 31

FSLI, "Spiru Haret", FEN and "Alma Mater" unions also decided the professors will participate on May 19 at the protest organized in Bucharest by the other unions of the public employees.

The teachers will no longer grade pupils and will boycott the national exams from the end of the school year.

Some 200 professors gathered in front of the Parliament Tuesday and Thursday between 10:30 and 12:30 a.m. to protest against the 25 percent salary cutback in the public sector and against some stipulations of the education bill.

The four unions in the education system will stake-out the Parliament on May 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 between 10:30 and 12:30 a.m., some 200 teachers participating daily at the protests, Liviu Pop yesterday told NewsIn.
