At the beginning of September, Romtelecom had 230,000 broadband internet customers through ADSL, according to company officials. The ADSL service, launched in 2005 at a price tag of €70 and a 2 Mbps download speed, enables faster data transmission than a conventional voice band modem can provide.
Access speeds increased two times in the past two years, in November 2006 and September 2007, and the shift from a lower speed to a higher one was done automatically for all existing clients, with no additional costs, according to the company. Data services - ADSL, Virtual Private Network (VPN), etc. - generated a 245 percent year-on-year increase in Romtelecom’s revenues in the second quarter of 2007. Lower revenues from landline phone services caused by a drop in subscribers and traffic on the individual segment was compensated by higher income from broadband services, satellite television and data transmissions.
The company announced for the first half of 2007 a significant drop in clients who were giving up Romtelecom’s services and a substantial increase in the demand of new telephone lines.
“Of Romtelecom’s retail revenues, 40 percent come from corporate clients,” said the company’s Public Relations Manager, Cristina Popescu. These clients will be able to make local and national calls inside Romtelecom’s network at a unique 0.027€/minute tariff (VAT not included) as of October 15, regardless of the time or day range.
Romtelecom’s Commercial Executive Manager on the business segment, George Makowski, added that the unique tariff offer inside the Romtelecom network includes prices up to 46 percent lower for national calls.
