The company’s Supply&Marketing Manager, Razvan Uruc, is estimating a 10 percent increase in the average value of systems sold by ProCa, due to a larger share of pre-installed software, including Windows, Office and other applications, in spite of a constant decline in hardware component prices.
According to company estimates, Octra computers had a 7 percent share of the local desktop PCs sold last year. “This share is to go up, to about 10 percent in 2008,” due to the integrated hardware and software solutions provided, Uruc added.
Octra is part of a pilot program, named “PC@casa” (PC@home), providing personal computers which include encyclopedias, educational software, programming media and games. Of the 40,000 units expected to be sold last year, some 7,000 will include the pre-installed software package.
The Octra brand was inspired by the name of RTC group founder, Octavian Radu.
ProCa is not the only local IT company selling its own computer brand. On this segment, its competitors are Altex, Complet Electro Serv, Flamingo International, K Tech Electronics and Romsoft.
Some 683,000 PCs were sold last year in Romania, of which close to 400,000 were desktops and less than 297,000 notebooks, according to data from research company Gartner.
