Salaries fall in the real estate sector

The case is not singular, amid the global financial turmoil that has already affected Romania. Recruiting has stopped on this segment.

Furthermore, sales and project managers, who were among the best-paid employees on the local market, with salary packages amounting to €10,000 per month, are no longer earning more than €3,000 in fixed salary. Meanwhile, bonuses for sales have doubled and even tripled, but those who manage to make a deal to earn such bonuses are very few.

“Early this year, a real estate project manager was earning up to €12,000 per month, or even more. The fixed salary could amount to €4,000 while the remainder was sales commissions and bonuses,” said Wrightson Romania executive search company Managing Partner, Alexandru Talmazan. “Currently, due to the problems on the real estate market, the income of those working in the field has declined significantly. Most employees only receive the fixed salary, or one third of the earnings they had several months ago. Furthermore, some employees are forced to look for a new job,” Talmazan added.

Worst affected are sales agents, for whom bonuses made up most of their earnings, while the fixed salary amounted to only €600-800. “Before the problems on the real estate market, a good salesman could have revenues similar to a sales manager in peak periods,” up to €10,000, according to a Project Consultant with Barnett McCall Tech, Ariel Ungureanu. “Now, most of the sales agents are no longer earning bonuses, and must live off the fixed salary,” Ungureanu said.
