Productivity rose 10.8 percent in H1 2007, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). However, this June most economic indicators decreased, compared to May. Industrial production was 2.7 percent lower, especially in the processing sector, subject to a 3.6 percent drop. Total industry turnover was 0.2 percent lower month-on-month.
In spite of lower indicators, some 9,000 people were employed in June, increasing the total number of employees to 4.74 million. This adds to the 1.2 percent monthly salary increase and the 22.5 percent year-on-year rise (more than double the productivity rise).
The index of the actual salary rise (calculated as the ratio of the average net salary index and the consumption price index) was 101 percent compared to May, and 118 percent year-on-year.
The unemployment rate tumbled to a 17-year national record low of 4 percent. Unemployment dropped even in counties whose rates are usually higher than the rest of the country, such as Mehedinti (8.6 percent) and Vaslui (6.4 percent).
