Recently, Tarom’s General Manager, Ruxandra Brutaru, said that 2008 was a profitable year, considering that the company registered increases on all indicators, but ended the year in the red due to the price of oil, which was an uncontrollable factor.
The airline’s revenues could rise 9.8 percent, to RON 1.532 billion (some €360 mln, at a considered leu-euro exchange rate of RON 4.3/€1, the value estimated by analysts for 2009).
The amount allocated for investments in 2009 will double year-on-year, to RON 235.6 mln (some €55 mln), of which RON 166.82 mln will come from own sources and the remainder from foreign bank loans.
The company transported almost two million passengers last year, five percent more than in 2007. Other airlines operating on the Romanian market include Carpatair, Lufthansa, British Airways, and AirFrance-KLM.
