Before the crisis began, there were no discounts on the premium car market, as dealers enjoyed a stable clientele on a segment in continuous expansion.

Ioana Taflan, Communication Manager of Mercedes-Benz Romania, the general importer of the German brand, said there is no single approach to the reduction policy, the market being the only one which will regulate such discounts.

“Dealers with a more stable situation are sticking to their price, others are more desperate. It is difficult to say what the limit is at which price cuts have meaning or not. In the end, the market will show whether these were measures they could not afford,” said Taflan.

Mercedes-Benz is offering price drops ranging from €1,700 for its GLK model to €10,200 for the E class. The discount for the C class model amounts to €3,700, while that for the S class is €8,000.

BMW dealers cut prices by €2,000 for the 1 and 3 Series models, and up to €5,000 for the 5 and 6 Series, applied on prices excluding VAT. The prices of the X3 and X5 SUVs fell €4,000.
