“The industry ascension potential is very high next year, and operators knew how to maintain their client base with excellent offers. Practically speaking, clients spoke 30 percent more in 2009 for the same amount of money. Maintaining the client base created premises for growth next year for operators,” Catalin Marinescu, ANCOM’s President, told Business Standard.
According to the ANCOM official, although the market has potential for growth, it is very difficult to estimate the market’s evolution in 2010, because the state of the economy and the period when the market could increase remain uncertain. “We should see a BNR [the National Bank of Romania] estimate first, to be able to calculate more accurately,” added Marinescu.
The growth rate of the number of mobile broadband connections will continue to increase next year, by 50 percent at least, and soon, the number of internet connections will be divided equally among fixed and mobile communication operators.
“There was a significant increase in the first half of this year, to 2.4 million mobile connections from 1.5 million. The evolution will be maintained next year,” ANCOM’s President said. According to him, the highest growth rate will be registered by mobile internet, because the penetration rate for fixed communication services is far too low.
