Malcopol declined to comment about his resignation. He is the last official who was part of the management of Astral, the cable TV operator acquired in 2005 by Liberty Global, UPC’s mother company. Following the acquisition, most of top management positions within the new UPC-Astral entity were taken over by the UPC team. The company later changed its name to UPC Romania.
Malcopol has been working for 14 years in the IT&C field and served as State Secretary of the Communication Ministry before coming to Astral in 2003 as General Manager for internet, data and phone services. He later became B2B Department Manager within UPC.
In February 2008, Chief Financial Officer Dragos Tanase left the company, followed shortly thereafter by General Manager Richard Anderson. Legal Manager Florina Tanase and Communication Manager Andreea Nastase also quit the company.
