The national currency continued its upward trend on Wednesday, strengthening to RON 3.6985 from RON 3.7115/€1 in Thursday’s first transactions, in line with similar appreciations of the Polish zloty, Hungarian forint, Turkish lira, and the Czech and Slovak coronas, said dealers. By 10:00 a.m., banks were acquiring one euro for RON 3.6990 and selling it for RON 3.7090.
“For the moment there seems to be a larger supply of foreign currency on the market. Similarly, the key rate has been raised on the forint, yields have been accepted for the Turkish lira, forint bonds have risen, and the market has settled,” said Banca Transilvania Head Dealer, Ion Birle, for NewsIn.
On international markets the American currency appreciated to $1.5611 from $1.5693/1€, and by 10:40 a.m. the euro was quoted at $1.5614.
Interbank rates on overnight deposits remained close to the monetary policy interest rates, of 9.50-10 percent per year.
