“There was greater demand for foreign currency, but the variations of RON 0.01-002 are insignificant. In any case, the market is calmer, compared to the amplitudes we have become accustomed to in the past few months,” according to a statement by Banca Transilvania dealer Florin Bota for NewsIn. 

As such, the leu depreciated by some RON 0.02 in the first hour of Thursday’s trading session, to a low of RON 3.7275/€1, later regaining lost ground. Banks paid RON 3.7127 at 11:30 a.m. for one euro and sold it for RON 3.7226. 

On international markets, the American dollar lost ground to the European currency, reaching $1.58/€1, while by 11:39 a.m. the euro was quoted at $1.5777. 

Interbank interest rates on one-day overnight deposits slightly exceeded the level of monetary policy interest Thursday morning, of 9.5-10 percent. (NewsIn)
