The European currency was quoted at RON 3.5870/€ when Tuesday's session opened, then rose to RON 3.6060/€. The euro later dropped to RON 3.5910, coming back to RON 3.6050 and falling to RON 3.5870 at 11:20 a.m. Subsequently the leu began a drop against the euro.
"The appreciation of the leu in the first part of the day is counterbalanced by the evolution of other currencies in emerging countries. The volume of euro sold in exchange of lei is quite high," said Narcis Noaghea, dealer at Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), the country's largest lender.
On international markets, the dollar increased to $1.4816/€ from $1.4883/€ in the first hours of Tuesday, quoted at $1.4845/€ by 11:30 a.m. (NewsIn)
