The general insurance segment generated some €1.9 bln in gross subscribed premiums, 79.5 percent of the total market. “In absolute terms, the value of gross subscribed premiums registered a growth by RON 1,607.29 million [€372.75 mln] in 2008 from 2007,” indicated CSA, adding that, of this absolute growth, 72.3 percent comes from auto damage and theft insurance (Casco) contracts. Due to their 34.72 percent increase, the subscribed premiums from Casco insurance policies raised their share in total general insurance to 50.5 percent in 2008 compared to 45.7 percent in 2007.
Gross subscribed premiums related to Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance (RCA) contracts rose 20.58 percent in 2008. Their share in the general insurance segment increased to 25.9 percent.
The life insurance segment generated a gross premium income of over €488 mln, 20.5 percent of the total market.
