Timis County follows Bucharest Municipality in terms of standard of living indicators, and the county’s annual rhythm of growth will be some 6 percent by 2010, according to prognoses made in Timisoara by Ministry of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian.

Vosganian declared on Saturday in Timisoara that standard of living indicators are some 40 percent higher than in other counties around the country.

“As Minister and Coordinator of the National Prognosis Commission (CNP), I was eager to present in Timis County some data that shows the situation of Timis County compared to the other Romanian counties, and I can say that Timis County is in first place in the country, excepting Bucharest Municipality. It is way ahead in first place in terms of living standard indicators, with gross domestic product per capita the most synthetic at €7,335 per capita, some 40 percent higher than the national average, and the Commission’s forecast shows that by 2010 the county will have an annual growth rhythm of some 6 percent, higher than the national average. I am talking about 2009 and 2010, which will make Timis continue as top county in the country. This is due to governmental investment fiscal policies, but also due to initiatives of the local people and their desire to work. There is virtually no unemployment in Timis County, with the indicator at 1.7 percent, below the normal ratio,” added Minister Varujan Vosganian.

The Minister went on to add that Timis does have a development lag between Timisoara and other cities, namely rural areas. Vosganian said that the Government will send funds to the county to connect rural areas to the water supply, thereby helping to lessen the discrepancy between the towns.
