Furthermore, Transelectrica is to focus investments in the coming two years on a new interconnection line with energy systems in Serbia, Moldova and Turkey, which is set to double Romania’s transportation capacities.
Late last week, Transelectrica inaugurated a new transportation line to Hungary.
“Romania’s main stake in this project is to have energy exports to markets where the price is better and demand is high, and there is greater predictability and trust in the market,” Transelectrica General Manager, Stelian Gal, said.
The company is also to rethink its total investment plan, worth €2 billion by 2012, to focus on the southeastern Dobrogea region, where numerous energy production projects, including from renewable sources, have been announced.
For 2009, the company planned investments worth €97 million, higher than this year’s level, Gal said. He added that the company will not be impacted by the possible decline in consumption, caused by the global crisis, because it plans to increase exports and energy transit.
