"There are some 200 companies on the market, but very few of them are significant," according to Darian's General Manager and sole shareholder, Adrian Crivii, for Business Standard.
In the real estate field, Darian's main competitors are Arco Real Estate, a new company, and Colliers, one of the largest real estate consultants in the country. In the business valuation segment, Darian is competing with the Big Four group (KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touche). These multinational companies are market leaders in Romania's neighboring countries.
"A business can be valuated at any stage, from its establishment, to mergers and acquisitions, and even at the time of insolvency," Crivii told Business Standard.
He explained that valuation is applied to costs, income and in relation to the market. "It does not matter how much a building costs, but rather what price it can be sold for," he said.
Darian operates valuations for buildings, land, tools, shares, inventions, software, and brands. The company was involved in several privatizations, including that of the Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), Romania's largest local commercial bank. Darian valuated the bank for the Portuguese Millenium BCP bank, which lost the tender to Austria's Erste Bank. It also valuated Antibiotice Iasi and Daewoo Craiova, two major companies to be privatized. Darian has 17 offices in Romania and 50 employees. The company plans to open a further two offices in the cities of Bacau and Ploiesti. Crivii said he does not rule out expanding the business outside Romania.
