Videanu: We could diminish the state’s stake in EnergoNuclear

This is practically speaking the sign of the beginning of new negotiations for stakes owned by the state-owned Nuclearelectrica company and investors CEZ, GDF SUEZ, ENEL, Iberdrola, and RWE Power, the latter all represented by ArcelorMittal Galati. Videanu indicated that the state is prepared to be flexible in terms of procedures to initiate this investment, even if this requires the modification of the structure of EnergoNuclear. Asked if this means that the state will reduce its stake, the Minister added: “In the interest of flexibility, anything is possible.”

“The government will not give up on this project, and we will find resources to start this as soon as possible,” said Videanu. He explained that the restructuring of the energy production system, which involves the creation of two, three or four new players, will be concluded this year, with the new structures to become operational by the end of the year. Sources close to the discussions indicated that the state intends to establish two thermo-hydro-mining giants. The Economy Minister also said that he will consider public-private partnerships and joint ventures.
