The central bank plans to finalize, in the next couple of days, a work model to clarify the situation of bank loans, so that the sale of non-performing loans can be as transparent as possible, especially considering that the process of selling non-performing loans at huge discounts is continuing.
BNR is still analyzing the proposal of allowing banks to reduce up to 50 percent, compared to only 25 percent at present, of the value of collaterals when setting up provisions for loans with arrears exceeding 90 days.
According to data obtained by Business Standard from Coface Romania, local banks sold more portfolios of poor-performing loans in the first five months of this year than in the whole of 2008, when their value was of €285 million. Businessman Dinu Patriciu, the wealthiest Romanian, recently said that he would be interested in purchasing poor-performing loan portfolios in case these came at a discount of 80-90 percent.
