“The amount is very small compared to the investment’s value, but it is the maximum amount Romania can provide,” sources close to the negotiations said.

Voestalpine is to sign a memorandum with Romanian authorities regarding this investment. The document is to be signed early next month. The signing was postponed due to harbor operations problems, that were later clarified during a meeting between Voestalpine representatives and government officials.

Voestalpine will invest several million euro in storage and transport lines, bridges, machines and transport lines. The land that Voestalpine is interested in does not have any of these facilities.

Voestalpine is also considering Ukraine, Turkey and Bulgaria as possible locations for the new steel plant. The company already signed a memorandum with Ukraine and Bulgaria. A feasibility study for Turkey is underway.
