Lindab, producer of metal components for construction and ventilation systems, registered first quarter net sales of 54 percent higher than Q1 2006, reaching some €5.7 million (€3.7 million in 2006).
“With a milder climate and higher temperatures than in previous years, the winter season positively influenced sales in the first quarter of this year. Sales in April and May met our expectations,” said Andrei Sulyok, General Manager of Lindab Romania. Lindab’s investments in Romania reached some €9 million in March, and company plans for 2008 include the expansion of storage capacity and the introduction of new production lines for its two divisions, Lindab Profile and Lindab Ventilation.
“The areas in which we activate, namely metal construction components and ventilation systems, have great potential for development. We must take into account the fact that these sectors began developing a little late, sometime in 2000. Compared to other Central and Eastern European countries, their development had a late start, which explains the accelerated growth in the past 2-3 years. Rapid access to loans and the high level of foreign investments have influenced this evolution. We estimate that positive developments will continue at a faster rate than in other EU states.” Lindab Romania’s 2006 turnover of €38 million, 26 percent year-on-year, represented the Scandinavian group’s highest growth rate. The company’s General Manager explained that Lindab will focus this year on developing Russian and Ukrainian markets. Construction began on a 15,000 square meter factory on June 11 in the Russian town of Yuroslavl, some 300 km from Moscow.
Metal profiles brought some €36 million worth of business, and ventilation systems a mere €2 million euros. The Lindab Group registered a €805 million turnover globally for 2006. Its world headquarters are located in Sweden.
