Eurostat data regarding Romania's inflation are close to those recently published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). Last month, inflation decreased by 0.09 percent compared to July, while annual inflation tempered to 8.02 percent, according to INS.

The august decline was the first in the past two years. In August 2006, prices went down 0.07 percent compared to July 2006. Last month's deflation comes after a 9.04 peak registered in July.

In the European Union, average inflation amounted to 4.2 percent year-on-year and, while consumer prices declined 0.1 percent month-on-month. In the euro-zone, annual inflation was 3.8 percent.
Latvia had the highest inflation rate in August, 15.6 percent, followed by Lithuania, with 12.2 percent and Bulgaria - 11.8 percent.
