Romanians go to the restaurant mainly to meet friends (67.1 percent) and with their families. Some 7.8 percent answered that they eat out with business partners. “In Romania, due to lower purchasing power, business lunches are less well developed than in the European Union, where people go to restaurants with business partners almost as much as they do with friends,” according to Dragos Petrescu, CEO of Trotter Prim, which owns the City Grill restaurants.

The quality of food quality, service and speed are the most important factors for choosing a location.

According to the same study, a mere 9 Romanians out of 100 went to a restaurant more the five times in a single month. Also, over 70 percent prefer Romanian food, followed by Italian and Asian. The average tip is RON 6.83 (almost €2). Tips are highest in Bucharest, at an average RON 9.2.
