In just a few months, due to the economic crisis, local employers have switched from workforce deficit to massive layoffs. The crisis led to more than 200,000 layoffs and the chances for over 570,000 unemployed finding jobs getting slimmer, considering the number of vacancies on the local market is presently some 12,000, according to data provided by recruitment companies.
Job demand on the local market rose significantly over the past few months, compared to supply, while the number of applicants tripled on recruitment Web sites. According to a study by the Mercer consultancy company, the share of companies which operated layoffs at the beginning of this year increased fivefold year-on-year.
Recruitment intentions of companies on the Romanian market fell three percentage points in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter and by 33 percentage points compared to the corresponding period in 2008, according to the Employment Outlook Survey, carried out by the Manpower human resource company.
