Florin Pogonaru, President of the Association of Romanian Businesspeople (AOAR), insists that there is a need to sign an agreement with IMF, but that the country must be able to choose swap agreements from the products offered by the lender. “I believe it is imperative to initiate talks with international financial institutions, the World Bank, IMF, to ensure certain solutions for critical situations. Nobody can afford the luxury of not beginning talks with such investors,” said Pogonaru in an interview for Radio France International.
Liviu Voinea, President of Group of Applied Economics (GEA), also feels that Romania should begin talks with IMF. “This is inevitable at the moment,” he told Business Standard.
Ionut Dumitru, Head of Research of Raiffeisen Bank, said that Romania should resort to signing an agreement with IMF as a last resort in terms of foreign financing options.
