Autoliv Romania safety systems producer is relocating part of its employees to new factories opened in Romania, as a measure of securing staff and avoiding layoffs, amid a 40 percent drop in orders. Some 300 employees of the total 2,500 will be transferred to the recently finalized production unit of the Swedish producer.
“We recently established a new division where we produce special springs for seatbelts and to which we transferred 150 employees. This is an ongoing project and, depending on market conditions, up to 300 employees could work there. We are also drafting other projects, but amid the current market situation I cannot say how much we will invest or when these will be finalized,” the General Manager of Autoliv Romania, Ionel Fierbinteanu, told Business Standard. He added that feasibility studies are being carried out for these projects.
The company expects a 30 percent decline in orders by the end of the year, given that the auto industry was severely impacted by the global crisis. Autoliv’s main clients are carmakers Ford, with 12 percent of total orders, Renault-Nissan (12 percent), General Motors (11 percent), and Volkswagen (10 percent).
