Crisis forces down investments in recruiting

“A decline in recruiting intentions is inevitable, but this will happen only in certain fields, more on the banking segment and less in the oil and gas industry. There are companies that have stopped recruiting for a significant number of new positions, although they were part of this year’s plans,” according to the Managing Partner of Total Business Solutions HR company, Daniela Necefor. Those companies only recruit personnel needed urgently or replace employees that leave key positions.

“The most affected are construction and real estate. We are not only talking about lower recruiting. Unfortunately, there have been and will be lay-offs, as many companies cannot go on with their projects,” HR Perspective Group Managing Partner, Alina Botezatu, said.

According to Grafton recruiting company Country Manager, Florin Ochiana, several companies with offices in Romania seem to have frozen their recruiting budgets. “Although the impact of the financial crisis was not yet felt in the country, I do not think we will be totally safe. Since the end of 2007, the focus has started to shift to securing personnel and on performance. This will be increasingly the case,” Ochiana said.

A study carried out by Antal International executive search company this fall, Global Snapshot - Hiring&Firing Survey, ranked Romania among the countries with the lowest employment and retention level, behind Bulgaria and Croatia. “Within our company, recruitment demands declined dramatically compared to the past five years,” Antal Managing Director, Irina Vasile, said.
