“We have several projects in three locations and we estimate it will take one year until we obtain all authorization,” company officials told Business Standard.
CWP recently sold a wind energy project of 600 MW, located in Dobrogea, south eastern Romania, to Czech energy group CEZ, in a deal estimated at €150 million. This is the largest wind energy project to be developed on land in Europe.
Investment fund officials said they are focusing on the Moldavia region because they have more land available there. However, they are also studying development opportunities in Dobrogea.
CWP management did not make a decision so far regarding the sale of its new projects, when they are finalized, but does not rule out the possibility.
Developing projects totaling 900 MW up to the stage when they produce electricity requires investments close to €1.2 billion, given an average cost of €1.3 million per MW, according to data from specialists on the energy market. However, CWP representatives said construction costs for wind energy parks increased by 30 percent recently, so costs could amount to €1.5 million per MW.
CWP is operating in several Central European countries. In Romania, it plans to develop wind energy capacities exceeding 1,000 MW, with an investment totaling €1.5 billion.
Although several major projects were announced recently, only 7 percent of the total electricity produced in Romania comes from wind energy parks.
