The company currently operates ten flights to Italy from Bucharest’s Aurel Vlaicu Airport, with destinations to Milan, Verona, Venice, Torino, Bologna and Rome. Blue Air serves the Spanish cities of Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Malaga.
Gheorghe Racaru, the company’s General Manager, said that a mere 60-70 percent of the potential of the Romanian air transport market has been tapped. Blue Air is evaluating the possibility of an external mini-base, where company planes could park at any hour of the day or night.
Speaking about the price of fuel, Racaru said that the current crisis will lead to a modification of airline strategies, mainly in terms of types of aircraft used. Blue Air has decided that the next airplanes to enter its fleet will be more fuel efficient and have a larger capacity.
The company posted turnover worth €23 mln in the first quarter, 25 percent higher than in Q1 2007, due to an increase in the number of passengers.
The company’s competitors on the Romanian market are Slovakian SkyEurope, Hungary’s Wizz Air, Germanwings, British easyJet, and Irish Ryanair.
Flights to Spain and Italy make up over 40% of Blue Air turnover
