If the company is forced to shut down the complexes permanently, Niculae sees the solution in fields such as the food industry, live stock farming, agriculture, electricity, bioethanol, and concrete production.
Niculae said that agriculture and the food industry are Romania’s growth engine. “The value of every euro invested now in agriculture will triple next year,” said Interagro’s President.
However, Romania risks facing one of the most severe crises in agriculture in 2009, which could cause a 40 percent plunge in the agricultural production, unless fiscal measures are taken as soon as possible and subsidies are granted on time.
The average price of a hectare of farm land has reached RON 2,500 (some €659), half its August level, due to a shortage of liquidity, forcing farmers to sell their land, according to Niculae.
