Baneasa airport posted an 80% rise in passenger traffic in 2008

“The number of passengers rose above our initial estimates,” said the airport’s General Manager, Stefan Mladin. A significant increase was registered in October, 30-40 percent more than in a regular month, up to over 170,000, due to persons going on holiday. Mladin said that Romanians preferred exotic destinations, such as Egypt, Tunisia, Malta, and Cyprus.

The company’s turnover surged 60 percent year-on-year in 2008, to €23 million. “We could maintain the same growth rate in 2009, or even raise this compared to 2008. It all depends on the economic situation in Romania,” Mladin added.

The airport’s General Manager said that 2009 will be a very difficult year, especially for small companies, which will disappear if they do not redefine their strategy.
