Romania’s leu keeps sinking against the euro as it hits new low

Announcing the October annual inflation figure failed to influence foreign currency trading, Banca Transilvania dealer Florin Bota said. Annual inflation stood at 6.84 percent in October as the consumer price index rose, a release by the National Statistics Institute reads.

On the international markets the U.S. dollar rose slightly against the euro, to 1.46 U.S. dollars per euro. Inter-banking interests for overnight deposits fluctuated between 7.50 and 8 percent.

The leu last week lost 3 bani against the euros, as it stood at 3.3969 lei per euro, after Standard & Poor’s changed Romania’s rating perspective from “stable” to “negative” and the head of the Central Bank of Romania criticized the Cabinet’s fiscal policies.
